O 1º afro-americano, eleito para presidente dos E.U.A.
Martin Luther King, fez o seu célebre discurso "I have a dream" em 28/08/1928, há 45 anos .
Após a sua vitória , Obama discursou perante 1 milhão de pessoas que se encontravam em Grant Park, Chicago:
"Because of what we did on this day, in this election, in this defining moment, change has come to America. If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer," "A new dawn of American leadership is at hand"
On the eve of the election Mr Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, died. He had referred to her in some of his most powerful campaign speeches. Mr Obama said: "She was a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility."
Nunca uma eleição foi vivida tão intensamente por variadíssimas nações de todo o Mundo.
